Smash Karts(SmashKarts.io) is a multiplayer online kart battle arena game developed byTall Team, a Dublin-based indie studio. First released in March 2020 and continuously updated through March 2026, the game has earned a 9.1/10 rating from over 233,000 votes on CrazyGames and over 1 million mobile downloads. Unlike traditional racing games, the goal is not to cross a finish line — it is to destroy other players’ karts using weapons collected during combat. Matches support up to 12 players in Free For All or 8v8 in team modes, with rounds lasting just three minutes. How to Play Smash Karts

Every match drops you into a closed arena with other online players. Grab weapons, eliminate opponents, and finish with the highest score before the timer runs out.

Controls

Desktop keyboard controls:

• W / Up Arrow— Accelerate.
• S / Down Arrow— Brake / reverse.
• A / Left Arrow— Steer left.
• D / Right Arrow— Steer right.
• Space— Fire / use weapon.

Controllersupport is available — enable it in Settings > Controls by ticking “Gamepad Controls.” Onmobile/tablet, the game uses on-screen buttons.

Weapons and Loot Boxes

Drive into floatingquestion-mark boxesscattered around the arena to receive a random weapon. Your equipped weapon appears in the blue circle at the bottom-right of the screen. PressSpaceto fire it. Weapons fall into four categories:

Shooters (aim and fire):

• Rockets— Forward-fired projectile, best used when an opponent is in a straight line or mid-turn.
• Bullets— Short burst of forward shots effective in straight alleys and crowded areas.
• Machine Gun— Rotational auto-fire that tracks the nearest rival; best at close range.
• Snowball Launcher— Freezes a target for 3 seconds in a block of ice; touching the frozen block eliminates the trapped kart.

Lobbers (throwable explosives):

• Cannonballs— Fires 4 heavy balls with splash damage; effective against clusters but hard to aim at distance.
• Lobgrenuke— A grenade-style TNT bomb placed on the ground; detonates when an enemy passes nearby or after a few seconds.

Ramming weapons (contact kills):

• Nuke— A massive missile with a wide blast radius; devastating against grouped enemies.
• Spiky-Go-Round— Creates 5 rotating spike maces around your kart for ~6 seconds; any contact eliminates opponents. Grants +25% speed and 10% damage reduction while active.
• Invincibility (Star)— The rarest and most powerful weapon. Creates a yellow star shield for ~5 seconds, making you invulnerable to all attacks and allowing you to smash any kart on contact.

Traps (drop behind you):

• Mines— Deploy 3 static mines that explode when driven over; best placed around corners, behind loot boxes, or on ramps.
• Fake Loot Box— A decoy question-mark box that explodes when an enemy collects it.

Game Modes

Smash Karts offers multiple modes beyond the starter Free For All. Select modes using the arrow next to “PLAY” on the main menu.

• Free For All (FFA)— Up to 12 players, each kart for itself. Most kills in 3 minutes wins.
• Team Battle (8v8)— Red vs. Blue; combined team kills determine the winner.
• Capture The Flag (CTF, 8v8)— Steal the enemy flag and return it to your base. Carrying the flag slows your kart and prevents new weapon pickups. You cannot score while your own flag is taken.
• Hat Holder— Up to 12 players compete to find and hold a hat for 30 seconds. Wearing the hat slows you and blocks weapon pickups.
• Additional modes— Arms Race, Gem Collector, Score Target, Kart Krusher, Candy Rush, and seasonal events rotate throughout the year. Modes not currently in public rotation can be accessed by creating a Private game.

Leveling Up and Rewards

Every public match earnsXP. Leveling up (max level 200) rewards you withcoins,gems,hats,wheels, andcharacter tokens. Use character tokens in theprize machineto unlock new characters with varying rarity levels. Signing up via Google, Apple, Discord, or email grants 100 free gems immediately and enables cross-platform cloud saving.

Customization

The Customize menu offers six cosmetic categories:

• Characters— 187 drivers, filtered by rarity and theme.
• Hats— 107 options from pirate gear to toilet plungers.
• Kart Colors— 48 color options (some free, others unlocked at specific levels).
• Wheels— Various designs unlocked through progression.
• Toppers— Kart accessories like guitars and flags.
• Celebrations— Victory effects for post-match flair.

Maps

The game features over 20 arenas including Kartuga, Toxic Towers, The Sand Box, Boneyard Basin, Snowpark, Skate Park, Lava Pit, Graveyard, Smash Fort, multiple Sky Arena variants, and seasonal maps. Public matchmaking rotates maps automatically, but Private lobbies let you select specific arenas.

Smash Karts Tips and Strategies

1. Always stay armed — drive loot box routes constantly.Being weaponless makes you a sitting target. Prioritize paths that pass through multiple loot boxes so you always have something equipped. If you pick up a weapon you do not want, dump it immediately and grab a replacement from the next box.
2. Place mines around corners and behind loot boxes, not in open areas.Mines in open space are easy to spot and avoid. Hiding them behind corners, on top of ramps, or directly behind real loot boxes forces enemies to drive over them before they can react. The same logic applies to Fake Loot Boxes — place them near real ones to maximize confusion.
3. Save nukes for clusters — never waste them on a single target.The Nuke has the widest blast radius of any weapon, making it devastating against grouped enemies. Firing it at one isolated kart wastes its potential. Wait for 2–3 opponents fighting in the same area, then launch for a multi-kill.
4. Fire rockets at committed targets, not dodging ones.Rockets travel in a straight line. If an opponent has room to maneuver, they will dodge. Wait until they are mid-turn, exiting a chokepoint, or driving straight toward you — these are moments where they cannot change direction fast enough to avoid the shot.
5. In CTF, defend your flag before chasing theirs.You cannot score a capture if your own flag is currently taken. A common mistake is having your entire team rush the enemy base, leaving your flag unguarded. Keep at least one defender near your base while others push forward.
6. Use the Spiky-Go-Round defensively, not just offensively.The spike mace weapon grants a 25% speed boost and 10% damage reduction for ~6 seconds. Activate it when you are surrounded or being chased — the defensive stats and contact-kill threat create a safety bubble that forces enemies to back off.
7. Drive unpredictably — drift, reverse, and change direction constantly.Experienced players predict straight-line movement and pre-aim accordingly. Sharp turns, sudden reversals, and aggressive drifting make you significantly harder to hit. This applies to every mode, but is especially critical in FFA where everyone is targeting you.
